when booting up, i receive a message that i'm missing dfs.vxd. Can I install without completely reloading windows. I also am getting a message missing vredir.vxd, but on MS's website it said to uninstall dial-up networking and then reinstall.

Thanks

The .vxd are usually drivers. You should be able to load it separately, depending on what it is a driver for.

The vredir.vxd I think, and someone correct me if I am wrong, is the re-director in your windows registry. I would contact MS on this one.

on the microsoft website to correct the Vredir. vxd message they said to unistall and reinstall dial-up networking, i did and still get the same message
someone reccommended to install wndows over the exisitn windows to solve both problems, but I am very leary of that, should I be?

thanks

If the recommended method didn’t work, then I feel that there may be a corrupt Windows Registry Entry. Re-installing the OS “may” take care of the problem, providing the re-install will correct any registry problems. (I know formatting and re-installing will correct the problem, but this is an extreme measure.)

Now, I am VERY HESITANT to suggest anyone screw around the registry unless they absolutely know what they are doing, so, unless you do…DON’T! J (If you do choose to mess with the registry, back-up the existing registry FIRST!!)

Again, if you have done what MS’s site said to do, and it didn’t work, contact Microsoft—or go ahead and re-install your OS. It probably will work, but you will have to do some re-installing of some programs.

Good Luck!

thanks,

I have tried to submit a question to Microsoft within support, but since the id # has an OEM in it they keep throwing me back to go to the OEM. This is a Dell product and i have used dell allot and am skeptical about getting an answer to these questions. Before when I have asked this type of question there used to be only one guy that could answer while others will. I think Dell has probably the best Cust/tech svc, but maybe not for this type of question. Is there someplace or another way I can try and get an answer?

thanks

thanks for the help. I reinstalled the files thru the installation disk through run. I have not tried to use any of the applications, but should just be able to uninstall/reinstall if needed. is there a place to find all the run commands?

Thanks

Hi, I have just encountered the same problem with my computer -- the exact device files are missing - and I get the "msnp32.dll" file not found. (I was having problems installing an ethernet card when error messages started)

Anyway, I wondered if you fixed your problem and if so - what did you do?

PS - I'm not a technical user but I missed "visitor" as an option.

I have the same problem. I fix it the way below.

Go to MY COMPUTER
then to CONTROL PANEL
then to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
then to WINDOWS SETUP
then to INTERN TOOLS
and then re-install INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING.

It works for me.
