Error Message CD Rom drive not ready

Hi,
I got this on a brand new machine, the cdrom ran for about 2 min. then was dead. The motor is dead.
I guess it is the same, if you can hear the lens moving (creaking noise) and then windows tells you that there is no CD in it, or the CD is not ready.
Check it out on another machine to be sure.
