Hello:

I am running Windows NT4.0 Terminal Server Edition with SP 6 Running Citrix MetaFrame. WE have in the last 2 days been receiving the following error messages for ALL USERS including administrators, when they login to their sessions.

"Cannot find the file "rock.exe" or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

Once the user, OK's this error message, they can proceed in their Terminal Server Session.

I have not installed any new programs (that I know of) so I am not sure why this is happening. I also cannot find any "rock.exe" file in my system or any reference to it with a basic file search. Does anyone have any suggestions. It would be appreciated.

Thank you.

do you have and option "launch this program at login" set or somethign to that effect? Not sure in the older version of windows and citrix, but that is usually whats wrong when we have receiver a similar error massage....

ad73,
It looks like someone might have executed a virus on that server.

Maybe your AVS picked it up and removed the file and it left some references in the registry on that server.

Look under HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN and see if you see it in there.

Hope that helps.

Hi Thanks for the suggestion:

I do not have Symantex ANtivirus software - only Mcafee. I do not see a solution for this problem in my research using Mcafee. Does anyone have a link that shows how to use mcafee or how to manually remove the software. Would really appreciate the help.

I had the same problem.

I am working in a small maritime company in Greece and we have a server running windows NT (SP6) with terminal services and CITRIX. We are using McAfee aswell.

The rock.exe is a virus. McAfee probably found it and deleted it. I suppose this virus installs itself so it starts when windows starts so windows try to find it but the file is not there because McAfee has deleted it.

Unfortunately windows NT don't have msconfig, but I found a free replacement, "Startup Control Panel".

You can download it from I downloaded the standalone exe version so no installation was required. Run the program and from the HKLM/Run tab uncheck the rock.exe.

This solved the problem for me, hope it works for you aswell.
