In Enterprise Manager
SQL Server Logs

I have a really large file and I would like to archive that file and start a new one (cause it takes forever for the details of that file to come up)

This is a 24/7 shop so rebooting is not an option.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance!!!

As a side note ... you can increase the number of SQL Server error log copies from the default of 6. Right-click on the SQL Server Log tab in Enterprise Manager. Then click on Configure. Set the default number of 6 to any desired number, w/in reasson - LOL. I have all mine set for an even dozen (12).

Thanks

BINGO

I've always just rebooted and well in a 24/7 shop... not really do-able :)

Thanks again

Colin

Ahh ... 24/7 ... Always brings up a whole new can of worms to deal with!!!

Thanks

By the way, I run my SQL Server 24/7 also and I set up a job that runs the sp_cycle_errorlog command every Friday night.

I have done the same as Bill, but I run my recycle log every night due to the high volume of chatter that is captured daily. That is why I set the number of archives + current to 12 copies as stated above.

Thanks
