I'm trying to install softawre for a scanner ( although this has happened with other software too) and each time I get the message:
setup initialization error
setup is unable to decompress all of the programs needed to proceed with he installation
error 112

It doesn't happen with all software but I can't work out why
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Jean

How much space is available on your hard drive? It almost sounds like there might not be enough room to extract (decompress) the installation temp files.

Almost 6 Gb so I don't think that can be the problem but thanks for taking the time to reply. ANy other ideas?
I've also tried copying the entire disc onto my HD and installing from there but I always get the same error.

Are you installing from cdrom? If you are try copying the contents of the cdrom to a temporary directory on your hard disk and install from there.

I ran into a couple of pieces of software that would not install from cd but worked when I installed them off the hard disk.

I had the same thought and tried copying the contents onto my hard drive but with the same result. This is driving me nuts!

Does it work on another computer? If not then maybe the information is corrupted.

I know this most likely sounds crazy, but the last time that I encountered this problem, I solved it by changing the CPU. The PIII that I was using was not specifically listed in the MB's manual as being supported by the board. It was however a simply matter setting the jumpers for FSB, multiplier, etc. The sytem was stable in all other respects. Time was of the essence so out of desperation more than anything else, I installed a PIII that was spefically listed in the manual. The problem disappeared and after 4 months the user has still not encountered the problem.

I don't know if this will help, but it may be that you are running out of space in your Temp directory. Try clearing that out and see if it works.

good luck.

You can receive this error message because of file corruption, or not enough space in the Windows\Temp folder. Since it is unlikely to be file corruption, delete as much as possible from the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
