Error installing sam broadcaster

I am trying to install sam broadcaster and every time i install it i get an error message saying --

"unable to connect to MySQL. Please make sure that MySQL is installed AND running. Also make sure you are using the correct MySQL login information"

Please could you help me resolve this problem.
All help is really appreciated thank you

Is it running?
