Error in Registry Checker

I am running Windows 98 ME.On startup the following message appears.
" Windows encountered an error accessing the registry.Windows will repair the registry for you and restart the computer."
After restart the message still remains.A few days ago I downloadet Explorer 6.0
Don't know if that got something to do with the problem.
Anyone out there who can help ??

I got this, so I removed the scan reg from the \run section of the registry.

You could use the Win ME restore feature, and go back before you installed I.E. 6.0.
I consider that rather risky though,because of the complexity of I.E. 6.0 and it's install. However, you would find out if that is the problem.

I've tried, hated, and uninstalled IE 6.0 from the Add/Remove Program applet in the Control Panel. No problems with the removal for me...
