Error in PortalCrawl

I checked the application logs on our SPS server and the following errors are being recorded. The first one is reported every 10 minutes.

- Event ID: 101
An error occured while initializing the portal applicationi cache. No mapping between account names and security ID's was done.
- Error in PortalCrawl Web Service 0x80042617

I am very new at Sharepoint so bear with me. I found information related to .NET Framework 2.0 being an issue, but I don't have .NET Framework 2.0 installed on the server. Nor do we use a proxy server.
Can someone help me resolve this matter?

Did you install Service Pack 2?
