I would imagine, as they're in the /tmp directory, these are merely transient files which were present when the list of files to backup were created, but had gone when the actual write to tape occurred, ie users had possibly logged in, done something which caused a write to /tmp, then logged out. Assuming everything else with the mksysb is OK, I wouldn't worry about it. To avoid this kind of thing, make sure all applications/users etc on your system are quiescent when doing the mksysb. HTH.

thanks,

which is the reason because the mksysb failed ?

Arrived 83% and report me to control the errlog because mksysb is not finished ..

Now repeat the mksysb

thanks

Hope it works for you. Remember that you can also use the -e option to mksysb to exclude certain directories. This is an extract from the mksysb man page:

3. To generate a system backup with a new /image.data file, but exclude the files in directory /home/user1/tmp, create the file /etc/exclude.rootvg containing the line /home/user1/tmp/, and type:

mksysb -i -e /dev/rmt1

Good luck.

When using exclude-lists with mksysb then you need to keep in mind that mksysb uses grep when filtering the list of files and directories to be backed up, i.e. regular expressions should be used in the exclude list.
An example: you want to exclude all *.mp3 files from the /tmp filesystem. You put this in /etc/exclude.rootvg:
^/tmp/.*\.mp3$
The carret ('^') and the dollar signifies beginning and end of filename. Period-star ('.*') is a wild-card for a string of any length. Since period itself is a wildcard we have to put a backslash before it when actually searching for a period!
If the carret was omitted from the above example then this would not only match:
/tmp/trashmeplease.mp3
but also:
/home/puppy/tmp/thechoke.mp3
Unless you had informed users that any directory named tmp would be excluded from system backups then this would not be desirable.
