hi all,

i really don't know much about cgi at all, but i was wondering if anyone could help me with a little problem...

i downloaded a form mailer script from bignosebird.com and i've customised it where necessary (path to perl, path to sendmail, etc.) but when i submit my html form, i get an internal server error, which according to the error log on my server is due to 'Premature end of script headers'.

i don't know what to do about this! is it a simple problem to fix or would you like me to post the script (or bits of it)?

to see what happens at the moment, you can go to
any help would be appreciated,

regards,

ss...

Usually, this type of error is caused by something you forgot in the script. Check the entire script for punctuation: every perl statement should end in a semi-colon. Check that any variables start with $. Array's start with @. Check all quotation marks: be sure that there are no statements that start with a single quote and end with a double quote. Also be aware of "nested" quotes - ' " " ' or " ' ' ". Quotation marks have to "match" as shown. This will cause errors: " ' " ".

This is just a bit of what can be causing your problem. Maybe you could post your script here to make it easier to find the problem. There's always a better way...

thanks for your response, but i may as well post the script - it'd be much easier for you to have a look through it...

...sorry it's so long!

thanks,

To help debug, add the -w switch to your shebang line:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w

Also, you can use this following bit to route more specific errors to a log file in your cgi-bin (this should be placed just under your shebang line):

Code:
BEGIN {
    use CGI::Carp qw(carpout);
    open(LOG, ">>mycgi-log") or die("Unable to open mycgi-log: $!\n");
    carpout(LOG);
}

Anyway, at a glance it looks like a few lines near the beginning of ##Main### might need to be uncommented...

#@okaydomains=("and
#$SMTP_SERVER="localhost";

HTH. Notorious P.I.G.

Oops, scratch my #$SMTP...line comment. Missed that part in the script [smile] Notorious P.I.G.

ok, i uncommented the okaydomains line and it worked first time!

i knew i'd missed something!

thanks,

ss...
