Hello,

One of our users has not been able to archive messages. Every time she tries to archive, this error pops up:

"archive skips store due to error. failed to open a source store. the information store could not be opened"

We're currently running Exchange 5.5.
Anybody has an idea as to why this is happening. Anything helps.
Thanks,
DM

I've encountered the exact same message on a windows 2000 server sp3 running exchange 2000 sp3: "Archive skips store due to error. Failed to open a source store. The information store could not be opened."
No information exists on the microsoft website (of course), and nothing was found in a google search. The above query was the only thing I found here in tek-tips. Anyone have any idea?

Hi

Check to see that the user doesn't have an extra Personal Folder File open under his Outlook profile that is pointing to a path that is inaccessible. (You can check this under "Tools", "Services" in Outlook). If there is an invalid .pst file listed, remove it and it should correct the problem.

If this does not correct the problem, verify if the user has password protected his .pst file. If he has, try removing the password protection and try archiving again.

If this is not the case, try expanding his archive file and see if you can access it. There is a good chance that you won't be able to because this type of error is norally realated to the fact that the archive program cannot access a .pst file. If all else fails, try creating a new archive file.
