Error! HP psc 2210 all-in-one

I keep getting this message when trying to scan items from the 2210:

"Error!
An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again."

The machine is also unable to receive faxes. ><

The main problem is that I can't find any sites that have a checklist for setting this hardware up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Other things which may play a factor are you system resources & power management on your USB root hubs.

What OS? Did it work before on this setup? Is this parallel port or USB? I had problems with my Brother "All in One" (USB) when I added certain USB devices.
