I just installed 3D Studio Max R3.1. Upon startup I get the error "Hardware lock is not attached, or you are using the wrong lock, or the lock device drivers are not running." Can anyone help with this?

A hardware lock (or dongle, key or security plug as they are sometimes called) are small evil devices that come with some programs and attach to the parallel port of a PC which prevent unauthorized distribution of a computer program . 3d Studio Max is just one of those programs which requires such a device installed for use.

There really is no way to get around it's use (unless you get the crack - which is illegal). Go back to the retailer that you bought it from and find out why they didn't include it with software, seeing as it is necessary to run the program.

Hi

I have had 3D Studio Max, AutoCad 2000, and Inventor4 (Educational Versions)installed and running on my computer for a couple of years and they all worked fine. A few months ago I had to uninstall and reinstall my Windows XP. Since then 3D Studio will not open! I get the following error messages: " Hardware lock drivers are not installed. Application will terminate" and when I hit OK this message comes up, "Hardware lock is not attached or you are using the wrong lock, or the lock device drivers are not running"
I have not removed the hardware lock since installing the program 2 years ago. The other AutoDesk programs work fine.
What can I do to get it running again?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I have also had similar issues with hardlocks. I visited the hardlock vendors website (in my case HASP) and found that there were updated drivers available for free download for XP. Once installed, the software ran successfully.

Regards,

Duggsie.

Just a questiopn for Duggsie or anyone else who knows, where is this hardlock venders website. I am having the same problem with 3d studio max, and some could say I'm not exactly the most computer literate person around.
Thanks for all replies to this in advance.

Try RainbowTechnologies.Com if you are using the Rainbow Manufactured Key.
