The item numbers show up ok in the report. After exporting to excel, some numbers in the excel become strange numbers. everything else is fine.
example,
in report: 01-0000004-01 01-0000005-01
in excel: 36895 36896

i had checked the fields in table. they are all text.
plz help me find out the problem.

Kelvin

36985 is the numeric date value corresponding to April 01, 2001. Compare it to your string 01-0000004-01, does it ring a bell?

Add a character either in front or at the end of your string and try again.

Thx Dan i got the idea. i tryied it and it does work. but the problem is that i am not suppose to make any changes in the table. i am using pervasive and i just pulling out data to create the long long BOM report, so i cant go change them one by one. is there a way to solve this issue?

Sounds like maybe you will have to re-format on the excel spreadsheet after you import. Excel see that as being a number, you have to tell Excel exactly what each cell is or it assumes it is a number. If you want it to be text as it was in Access then you may have to put an ' in front of your string.
