On our MAS, I'm getting Error Event 1766: MWI Internal for several extensions that have been removed from our PBX due to terminations over the past few months.

The exact error message is... "MWI Operation: Reset failed for extension XXXX due to invalid station". The X's are the extension number, of course.

What do I need to do to clean this up (to prevent the system from attempting to signal MWI to these pbx stations)?

I certainly agree that the mailboxes need to be removed from MM, and I guess sharing the backend info would've helped.. durr!

Exchange is the backend... Active Directory.

So, my question is this. How can I associate these mailboxes for unknown users to an AD object?

If those accounts no longer exist but MM is still holding on to that information then you are going to need to rebuild/resync your FEDB on all your MAS servers before MM will allow those extension/mailbox numbers to be reused, or rectify your MWI issue. Also once you rebuild/resync your FEDB you will want to rebuild your MWI DB (what is your integration your MM system is using?).

If those accounts still exist, make sure they are not hidden from the GAL, not AD disabled, or disconnected from their Exchange mailbox. If the account is in any of those conditions then rectify the account first either by deleting that account or removing some properties of it (ExchangeData attribute cleared and NUMERIC address deleted) before you rebuild/resync your FEDB.
