Error editing aspx pages with Sharepoint Designer or FrontPage

We are having problems editing aspx pages with front page or sharepoint designer. We can edit html pages fine. This is running on Sharepoint 2003.

Have tried it from many different machines with different accounts.

Any idea as to what the problem is with editing the aspx pages.
