Hello.

We are currently experiencing problems with restores SQL7.0 from Compaq SDLT 110/220 (firmware V075) drives on Compaq Servers running Windows 2000SP4 and BrightStorArcserve Backup V9.01SP4a.

The following errors occur during a SQL restore by session:

BrightStor.log

Having spoken to CA Support, they said that the problem is hardware error. But they do not specify that it is the problem..... SCSI Card, SDLT´s firware, SDLT drive..?

The problem does not appear when using Windows2000 ´s backup tools . Restore is executed successful.

We have proven changing the SDLT drive and SCSI Card, but the problem persists.

The solution worked without problems during 5 months.

Some idea on this problem?

Tnks.

I have to say it's HW related if just review this log file. of coz CA support can't and won't locate the HW problem just like that HP/Compaq engine won't suggest you apply what CA patch even there's.

I did experience replacing the tape drive for several time and at the end proved to be HW issue.

I'd suggest you try backup and restore first but not restore the old media at the beginning after replacing the HW. if you get the same error with a fresh b/k and restore, you can't expect it works for a previous backed up media.

I had a similar issue with E6300 and restoring SQL DB and this helped me:

Perform the following steps on the computer running the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Server:
1. Open the Registry Editor, and find and select the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\Task\Common\DBAgentsSettings.
2. In the Edit menu, select the New submenu, and from there select DWORD value. Set the name of this value to SQLProtocol, and its value to 0.
3. Resubmit the Restore job.
4. After all restores are completed for Named Pipe backups from previous versions of BrightStor ARCserve Backup, return to the Registry Editor, and delete the "SQLProtocol" value.

After we upgraded to BAB 11 I'm backing up SQL DB using SQL agent Named Pipes and now it works withou problems.
