Error during Check Links

First - I made sure everyone was out of the system and the following tables were clear:

DYNAMICS.ACTIVITY
DYNAMICS.SY00800
DYNAMICS.SY00801
tempdb.DEX_LOCK
tempdb.DEX_SESSION

Then I logged in (using the GP client on the server) using the administrator account, and ran Check Links on every single Table in every Series (ran it over the weekend).

At one point I received the following error (I'm not sure how far in it got, once it started running I went away from the machine):

"A remove operation on table 'SY_Period_SETP' failed because the record couldn't be locked."

There was only an OK button, so I clicked it and it continued running Check Links (for an unknown period of time - I went away from the machine again) where it printed the completion report for me.

Any ideas on the cause of and/or the prevention of the mentioned error message?

Any ideas on how to clear the error
We are running GP 9 and MSSQL 2000.

I've determined some more information, based on the process window - and the SY_Period_SETP reference.

File: Period Setup
Record: Billing Entry

Any ideas?
