"CANNOT REMOVE FOLDER.
THERE HAS BEEN A SHARING VIOLATION.
THE SOURCE OR DESTINATION FILE MAY BE IN USE."
I HAVE BEEN GETTING THIS ERROR, NO ONE IS IN THE FILE AND IT ALLOWS MY TO DELETE ALL SUB FILES AND SUB FOLDERS.
I AM RUNNING NT 4.0 SERVER AND WORKSTATION. THE FILES HAVE BEEN RESTORED FROM TAPE DRIVE OR CD.

I CAN'T TAKE OWNERSHIP AND I HAVE FULL CONTROL PERMISSIONS.
PLEASE HELP ME , I NEED THESE OFF MY SERVER.
THANK-YOU.

Lisa,

Try accessing the folder from a DOS menu (Start-Run-"CMD"), perching one directory back, and then using the DEL YOURFOLDERNAME . That should take care of it.
Hope that helps.
Which folder is it, incidentally...?

Sounds like a service is dependent on it, and running.
Go to task manager, and terminate any unusual process, and try again. Also check your registry for any startup programs in the run= section, and disable them.

If the file says it's in use - somethings got it running..especially if you have ownership of it. Please let Tek-Tips members know their posts were helpful. Thanks!
