error deleting audit bad layer

Hmm ... i don't know how to work with Autocad but i have to fix this problem. We use Autocad 2002 on win 2k machines.
One of the computers is a server file,(all the files for editing are on it) one of this days the Autocad team had a bad experience: several files with an common external reference crashed and now after recover a new layer has appeared and their can't delete it.
The laye is empty has no xref but we can't delete it.
Please Help.
