extremely new to Crystal (aka i know nothing about it)....

i have a Reports server (Win2K3 SP1) that has Crystal Enterprise and Crystal Reports 10.5 on it. about every 10 days we get a message from our server monitoring software that reads:
Crystal_pageserver - Communication with client failed. Continuing with other requests. We don't know what's causing it or exactly how to fix it. Right now we just bounce all 10 Crystal services. today i tried bouncing just Crystal Page Server and Crystal Web Component Server and that didn't help. so in a desperate attempt to get the product back up and running i just bounced them all one by one, down the line. that always seems to work. but we'd rather (1) know what's causing this and (2) know which service(s) really need to be restarted to fix it. anyone have any experience with this? i would appreciate any help.

Hi,
Look at the event viewer to see more details ( maybe) on what the actual error may be - also check the times to see if some regular maintenance activity is blocking that port or communication path.

that is the message from the Event Logs. our monitoring software takes messages from there and emails them to us so we don't have to check each individual server (we have over 130). i can't seem to tie it to any activity as all our Maint stuff is done in the middle of the night and this is happening at various times during the day. the only consistency is that it happens about every 10 days (give or take) but not always at the same time. i'll keep searching!

Are your users getting an error? Maybe you'll need to have them start emailing when they first get the error and include the name of the report they were trying to open and whether they were refreshing the report's data or just opening an previously scheduled instance.

From there you may be able to figure out if it's a specific report that may be causing the problem.

thanks hilfy. that's my next line in troubleshooting. since it doesn't seem to be tied to a specific day, date, or time. it might be tied to a report. i'm not seeing anything the even logs about a particular report, but it just may not be getting logged there. thanks for the input!

Unfortunately, information about specific reports is usually not included in the event information. Good Luck!
