Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. We are using SharePoint 2003. I am trying to allow users of the portal to create their "My Site". But when they try, the error "There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information".

I am the site administrator, and have no idea what the problem is. It used to work fine.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Have you checked the settings under Site Settings, User Profile. Audiences, And Personal Sites Section, Manage personal sites.
You don't think that you might have conflicts with allready existing personal sites? SharePoint does have several ways of handling conflicts, so might be worth to look at those settings.

Do you get any other error messages for exmaple in the event log on the server?

Regards,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas2000. I really appreciate your help.

There seems to be an error on the Manage Personal Sites page. On the top of the page is the error "Could not load the current personal site settings".

Also, in the field where the "Personal Site Location" should be, there is nothing listed. And nothing available via the drop down menu. And I cant type anything in the field either.

I dont see any errors in the event log.

Any ideas?

Hi all,

Just an update on this "My Site" problem I have having. I tried adding a managed path. That didn't seem to make any difference. Still nothing shows up under the Personal Sites manager (no personal site location and nothing in the drop down).

The personal sites that were already created seem to be fine.

Thanks again for any help you can offer.

Resolved this issue. Under "Central Administration"
select "Configure virtual server settings;"
select the server hostong Shared Services from the list; under "Automated
Web Site Collection Management," select "Configure Self-Service Site
Creation." Setting "Enable Self-Service Site Creation" to "On" allows users to create "My Sites".

I have no idea why this went from "On" to "Off" on its own. But problem solved. :)
