error creating a new database server

Hi Friends,

I have a problem while trying to install a new database server with the utility srvbuildres:

The error message is:

srvbuildres: Adaptive Server message: 'Message number: 10321, Severity 14,
State 1, Line 1
Message String: Ad-hoc updates to system catalogs not enabled. A user with
System Security Officer (SSO) role must reconfigure system to allow this.

'. Error in query: 'update master..sysservers set srvnetname='MIRROR_BACKUP'
where srvname='SYB_BACKUP''.
Adaptive Server message: 'Message number: 156, Severity 15, State 1, Line 1
Message String: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'MIRROR'.

Error in query: 'sp_addserver local, NULL, MIRROR'.

srvbuildres: Server 'MIRROR' was not created.



I´ve been setting with sp_configure to allow updates to system tables but it doesn´t work.

What can I do?

Are you meeting these requirements:

1. You must set the SYBASE environment variable to the location of the current version of Adaptive Server before you can use srvbuildres.

2. Permissions:
You must be a Sybase System Administrator to use srvbuildres.

Thaks for posting me.

1- To execute this utility (srvbuildres) I am using a user that have defined this environtment variables.

2- Sybase System Adminsitrator? a user whith sa or so role?
I execute the utility via system command ($sybase/ase-12_0/install/srvbuilres -r resurce-file)it works ok unitl the last step, when the utility wants to rename backup server.

I have seen next note:
4.2. srvbuildres Fails to Rename Backup Server
srvbuildres fails to rename Backup ServerÔ from the default
SYB_BACKUP in the sysservers system table. This occurs even if you
specify a name other than SYB_BACKUP in the resource file for
Backup Server.
To run or even list the Backup Server, the server’s network name
(sysservers.srvnetname) must match its server name in the interfaces
file; therefore, you must update the Backup Server’s network name
manually.
To rename sysservers.srvnetname, enter:
sp_addserver SYB_BACKUP, null, backup_srv_name
For example, to rename a Backup Server to SYB_IGNATZ_BACK,
enter:
sp_addserver SYB_BACKUP, null, SYB_IGNATZ_BACK

I can´t find more information about this bug and I can´t rename backup server manually because when srvbuildres fails removes the new dataserver.

I have another guess:
Since MIRROR is a reserved word, if you havn't done so, please try to change the name.
I assume that due to the message you are getting:
"Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'MIRROR'"

srvbuildres: Character sets installed.

srvbuildres: Server name added. The name will be visible from SQL after
restarting the server.
srvbuildres: Server 'MY_SERVER' was successfully created.

I was four days trying to solve it!!!! I´m very, very pleasured.
