I'm running Tivoli Version 5, Release 5, Level 0.0 on a RedHat Enterprise Linux Server 5.1. I receive a OTSM report daily, and today it came up with this instead of its usual summary:

ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
ANS8023E Unable to establish session with server

I can't connect to it remotely or directly on the server. I've restarted the server without a change, and if I try to get to the command line prompt, I can put in the username but receive the same error messages after hitting Enter.

There have been no changes to the server between yesterday and today. How do I determine if the TSM service is running, and what can I do to bring up the command line? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Is it just one node that is producing the following message?

ANS1017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
ANS8023E Unable to establish session with server

If so, is the node register with the TSM Server?
Is there a firewall?
Is port 1500 open for bidirection?

If the node is register with the TSM Server.
Via the os see if you are able to establish a connection to the os that is hosting the TSM Server. See if you can establish a telnet or a ftp session between the two os.

If ALL TSM B/A Clients can not communicate with the TSM Server.

On the Linux system that is hosting the TSM Server -
ls -ps | grep dsmserv <- Check to see if the dsmserv process is running.

If not, go to \opt\tivoli\tsm\server\bin issue dsmserv and see what error message(s) that are produce when starting the TSM Server in the foreground.

Good Luck,
Sias

hi,

best way to look into activity log of TSM server to check the error which it produce when client tries to connect to server...

may be your server reaches to maximum value of sessions which it can establish...
