Error backing up Exchange 2000 stm files

I finally got Arcserve v9, BAOF, and the Exchange Agent running on my Exchange 2000 server after creating a local account matching the domain account for the Exchange service agent.

Now when I try to do a full machine backup and Exchange database backup (not brick level), I get errors saying that there is a sharing violation when trying to open pub1.stm and priv1.stm. About the only way I see to get a clean backup is to stop all the Exchange services, but that doesn't seem right. Am I missing a step here?

Another (maybe dumb) question. The docs for Exchange agent say it is redundant to back up the databases and to do a brick level backup. Does this mean that if I just backup the exchange databases and later need to restore them, the mailboxes with their contents will be restored also?

Help!

If you just backup the databases, you will be covered in the case of a disaster where you have to reload the server and get everything back. If you want the ability to restore individuals' data, you have to do brick level.

When you are modifying your backup job, can you browse the exchange server and see the information stores or just the c:, d:, etc?

When I open Backup Manager I see all the local drives (C, D, E, etc) and the Exchange Organization.

I have tried backing up the whole machine, just the drives, and just the Exchange Organization but still get errors.

Hi
What is the exact error message

regards,
mohamdr

I think I figured it out. I filtered out all the stm files on the D: drive from being backed up. All the Exchange related files are backing up properly when backing up the Exchange Organization using Arcserve's Exchange agent.

thanks for your help.
