Since this morning my users get the error message 'Automation server can't create object' when they try to open Crystal Enterprise to see the reports scheduled. I havent changed/installed/uninstall anything so I dont know what is going wrong.

Any help please???????????

Many thanks

I am fairly new to CRE and not sure if this will resolve your issue but go into the Central Configuration Manager and then go into the toolbar icon "Enable/Disable Servers", log into your server and make sure that everything is enabled. I just had the same problem and this resolved it

Good luck

breixo,

have you had any luck with "automation server cannot create object"?? I've tried a few suggested remedies, including ensuring all servers in the Crystal Management Console are enabled. They are. As far as I know, I did nothing to change my system (Crystal Enterprise 10 (Express) with Crystal Reports 10), and I get the same message IF I, the adminstrator, am not logged into the CMC. If I'm logged in, the reports show fine to users who bring up the report instances. If I'm NOT logged in, or haven't been active in the CMC after about 10 mins, users trying to view the report from our intranet url get the message: "Unable to retrieve objects: Automation server can't create object"

Any ideas would be appreciated

Are the users going directly to the reports via a URL as opposed to sigining in via ePortfolio (I think this is the user frontend in CE10) ? If via a URL then is the userid/password included in this or do you have guest/anonymous access setup as without authentication I would have thought no users would get in via a URL.

If via ePortfolio are users able to do anything with reports eg VIEW on demand, SCHEDULE or VIEW LATEST INSTANCE ?

Shorty,

I have users accessing via URL using the guest/anonymous access (they leave the user and password blank and CE 10 defaults to the guest account). I'm unfamiliar with ePortfolio (I'm just using Crystal Enterprise Express which came bundled with CR 10).

Thx for your thoughts.

Are you able to test a URL with the administrator's logonid details instead of leaving it blank ? If this works then it could be down to the privileges of the guest account and you could either adjust these or create a new "viewer"-type logonid for URL reporting.

ShortyA,

That's the problem, no login screen comes up now. Behavior used to be such that, when a user clicked the URL on our intranet the first time of the day, the login screen would come up and they could just leave user and password blank and hit enter. Then CE would default to the guest behavior. Now, the login screen never comes up. If I'm logged into CE as administrator and active in CE within the last 5 mins, the report will show up. Otherwise you get "Error: Unable to retrieve objects: Automation server can't create object

Thanks for your time

Just noticed from your original thread that you only checked the servers via the CMC not the CCM. You can open the CCM from there server that Crystal Enterprise is running on Start Menu/Programs/Crystal.../Central Configuration Manager. There is an icon at the top of the window that appears that allows you to enable/disable servers. Click on that and check they are all ticked.

Failing that I would suggest that it is something to do with your guest account. I have never used Crystal Enterprise Express but suspect it is a stripped down version of CE. On that basis you should be able to open ePortfolio. Try a URL like : and then see if this brings up the "Launchpad" with options like the CMC and ePortfolio. If it does then click on ePortfolio and try and logon with the guest account.

Another item to check is the EventViewer on the server. Have a look at the Security part just after you have tried to connect via the URL. Look for failures in the audit and make sure you are not signed into CMC before testing the URL!
