I am using a 1605 router.I upgraded my cisco IOS to verion 12.2(17)

when the router reboots I get this:
%SYS-4-CONFIG_NEWER: Configuration from version 12.2 may not be correctly understood

what does this mean?

when Cisco bring out an newer version of IOS it often has new or modified commands and therefore if any of these commands have been used in the old config they may have strange or unexpected results, hence the warning.

If you copy the run to start then this should overwrite the config details and stamp them with the new version number, then you shouldn't get the error again.

i did a copy run start and i still get this message.

here it is again.
%SYS-4-CONFIG_NEWER: Configuration from version 12.2 may not be correctly unders
tood
%SYS-6-BOOT_MESSAGES: Messages above this line are from the boot loader.

you need to copy the show run into a word doc, than copy into the global config, than copy run start.
