I have two Compaq DLT 35/70 drives which I want to combine into one group. I am getting the following error. "Unable to add "<Device:2> COMPAQ 35/70GB DLT DRV" to Group "GROUP0". Group has other type of drive."

Is this due to different firmware versions on the drives? One is running version 1624 and the other 2255. If this is the case, is it possible to update the firmware on the drive(s) without a server reboot?

Thanks for your input!

Jay

I don't think just a different firmware version would cause this. However different firmware can return different inquiry strings and that might be were the problem is.

Firmware update will necessitate a server reboot.

Officially it states that, if you want to put two devices in the same group they have to be: same vendor, same type, same firmware.

It is the firmware that dictates how the drive will be seen by the OS and applications. So either it is a problem with the firmware or something corrupting the communication to the drive such as cable or terminator.

I'd go with the firmware update, and you will problably need to update both. Many times only the latest version is available which migh be newer than what is in the other drive also.
