I recently imported several modules from a networked Access 97 db into a stand-alone Access 2K db and started getting this message:

Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost

I deleted the offending modules from the database window but they continue to display in Project Explorer. If I try to remove them from Project Explorer I receive the same message.

Any ideas on what is causing this problem and what the resolution may be?

Thanks. Larry De Laruelle

I had the same problem, I did not find out what it was, but I had to re-import everything I needed into a new database, and that solved the problem

I've had a similar problem with a phantom module that I couldn't get rid of in the Project Explorer. I don't know what causes it, but I got rid of it by creating a new database and importing everything into it (except the phantom module, of course, but you shouldn't see that in the Import dialog). I think I found the answer on MS Knowledge Base:

In a nutshell, if you import objects and then close the database the error will be generated when you next open the db or try to run the code.

MS solution (?) is to have you compile the db after the import and before closing it.

Can we say clunk, clunk? Larry De Laruelle

Thanks for posting the follow-up, Larry! Now, if I can just remember this when I need it next...:)

I have tried this and I keep getting the same error message in the new database. It is taking a lot of time because I've even imported the objects individually into the system but eventually the error resurfaces.

Did this happened to any one?

I am going to re-try removing the code from the forms and I'll see if that works.

Survane:

Did you check out the MS Knowledge base article.

Did you compile the database after you did the imports?

After I discovered this little quirk and the solution I have not had any more problems.

One last thing. Does you code contain any DAO 3.6 stuff? And, if so, have you enabled the DAO 3.6 reference and moved it to the top of the list? Larry De Laruelle

I attempted to do that I an kept getting an error message that the operation could not be performed. This was despite the fact that my code was not in break mode.

Not sure what to tell you.

Any of the gurus have any ideas? Larry De Laruelle

The most telling part of the MSKB article on this problem:
"At this point, you have to revert to a known good backup copy of the database."

Clunk, clunk, loud and clear.

I just had the same problem, on the day of delivery and i didnt have a 'good backup copy' for work done in the previous day. I have no idea at what point my database became corrupt, but no level of effort of trying to figure out what form/code module was corrupt work. I tried importing, compact/repairing, etc. I have worked with MS Acccess on/off for 8 years - this one is new to me. In the end, i had to go back a day.

Now, a question - have any of you had problems just cutting/pasting within the same database? Say a formatted combo box from on form to the next? This is one of the things i feel could have caused a problem.
