Okay, I have a FRESH 2003 Standard install, IIS6, MS SQL 2000, all the latest and greatest updates.

Problem I'm having is this:

The install goes fine, it sets up the admin DB no problem. But when I try to extend/create the first server/site, it returns with the error:

"The virtual server was extended with Windows SharePoint Services, but the following error occurs in creating the default site " Please correct the input and try to create the default site again. Error: Access is denied."

What i'm finding most puzzling, is that the account being used to create the site AND database both have rights to do so.

I've tried all kinds of ways to do this, but for testing purposes now I'm using the default NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE account. I created a new OU in my Active Directory (named 'Sharepoint_OU'), and have set both a test account from previous attempts AND the NETWORK SERVICE account to have delegation over that OU.

I can safely say the SQL config isn't the issue as the install does appear to create the database despite failing to create the site (I know this because the DB shows up in SQL after I run the process and get the error above).

What could be causing this access denied error?! The drive is NTFS, IIS is working properly (tested), the accounts are valid (tested), and the SQL server is working (tested too).

Ideas?! TIA~!

Also, I should note I am using the latest release of Sharepoint Services.

I have yes. :D

I'm going to try for testing purposes creating everything under the administrator account. See how that goes.

Ah lovely poor documentation.

It was NOT clearly defined that if you are desiring to run in Windows Authenticatin mode, you have to create EVERYTHING via the command line utils.

I STILL haven't gotten this working, but I appear to be a hair further than before.

As programmer I just cannot fathom why on earth they created such an ugly setup process and not create a GUI based util to configure all this.

Hello,

Do you have to run sharepoint with the Active directory account creation mode?
I can agree that is it not the most userfriendly way only to provide a command line configuration and NOT documenting it properly!

Thomas
