Hi,

I am using 4.5 netbackup datacenter on Solaris v8. I have a client also on solaris v8 with a database.

My problem is that the client needs a cold backup of it's database, so I am using bpstart_notify.Policy_name and bpend_notify.Policy_name scripts to stop and re-start the database. I get an error 74 which states that the bpstart script on the client took too long. The cure is to increase the BPSTART_TIMEOUT on the server greater than the defaule (it is! and is set at 900 or 15mins), or to make the bpstart_notify script faster. I need a pause of 5 mins from launching the database shutdown command till the backup starts doing it's thing! I just use [/usr/bin/sleep 60] for this.

So my question is:-
How can I achieve a successfull backup?
Any helpfull suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I have but one solution and this was what worked for us - Increase the timeout to 3600. I know that sounds like a lot but we have a lot of Oracle cold backups and some take a long time to dismount. As a standard now - All my bpstarts and ends are set for 3600 and I have had no more problems.
