Trying to set up a linked server from a SQL Server 2000 instance to another SQL Server 2000 instance.

Account and pass used are correct and verified.

Still receiving the error or:

Error 7399 - OLE DB Provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error.
Data source name not found and no default driver specified
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL'IDBinitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005:]

Any suggestions?

Thanks ALL!

Thanks

Well, if you look at my post about informix linked server you will see I am no expert but I have seen that error quite a bit recently (darn it)

I think your problem is that you need a provider of
SQLOLEDB

I suggest looking at BOL and search for Linked Servers

sp_addlinked server should work well since you are linking SQL server to SQL server

The example in BOL is pretty clear, but if you have a problem let me know.
