Hi guys, I recently built a new system for a friend that worked fine while conected to my lan. No probs with internet connection etc. However, after he's installed his own ISP's usb adsl modem and setup he finds he cant connect to the ISP/internet.
Instead he gets a error 721 ( which I believe relates to a PPP error.) The strange thing is if i connect his old machine it can use the modem etc without problems.
So far I've checked the settings, fushed the registry key using netsh etc reinstalled the modem drivers and created a new dun setup. Now I've come to a loss ..
Unfortunately the ISP isnt any help what so ever.
Is there a way to transfer the old DUN settings etc to the new PC? He's running XP pro on both machines, SP2, all the latest updates, the new system having a 2600 dual core processor and 1 Gb of memory installed
any help would be appreciated,
many thanks
glenn

HOW TO: Save and Restore Dial-up Connections in Windows XP

You could just grab the relevant settings via the Files and SETTINGS Transfer Wizard.

It could also indicate that he has NO DSL yet at his HOME...

or that the internet connection is set up to use DIAL UP or LAN instead of DSL...

under INTERNET CONNECTION (ie. IE, TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS), make sure that under CONNECTIONS, that the DSL Provider is listed there ONLY or set to STANDARD...

then choose below that window, from the radio buttons, one of the last two (DIAL only when connection is needed or DIAL always) (note: I am using a non english OS, so descriptions might be a tad off)...

Hit OK...

Hi ben thanks for the input but thats one of the first things I tried having taken it from a Lan to ASDL modem.
appreciate you taking the time to help tho ..
Not tried the file and transfer wizard, to be honest I didnt know I could just select individual settings .. i'll give it a try, thanks

no problem...

although another thing does come to mind that may be a cause for the problem...

bad cable? between the ADSL splitter and the ADSL modem...

Hi Ben, no as I mentioned before we use the same setup ( cables and all ) to connect it to the old pc and everythings fine. tried transfering the Rasphone.pbk file today and that didnt work either so ...

Have you tried to see if it will connect via Safe Mode with Networking?
