Error 721 but only from the office wireless

VPN connections from my home wireless ip of 192.168.29.11 goes great. I'm authenticated immediately and up and running.

At the company I work for I am physically located where there are no ethernet connections. However there is a wireless access point, which grants me an IP outside of their firewall and I can do web, email, etc. Now when I try to use the same vpn shortcut with my 192.168.3.x ip i get the Error 721 - Remote COmputer not responding. I can ping the VPN's IP address and netstat -an does show an established connection but am unable to authenticate. Network admins tell me they are not blocking any ports and must be my machine config.

This seems weird because this same laptop is able to make the vpn connection at home using a 192.168.x.x IP and uses the same type configuration when i bring it to work.

First, what kind of VPN connection are you trying to make? Are you using the MS built in client or something else, and what is the server.

Now for the next part . . . the AP is outside the firewall, but they aren't blocking any ports????? Kinda defeats the purpose of a firewall, wouldn't you think?? Either they don't know what they are talking about and they are blocking some ports, or they really haven't a clue and they aren't blocking any ports at all, which makes the firewall more of a router than a firewall. Then again, maybe it is just a router? Either way, doesn't help your situation a bit, so post back answers to the first part and we'll see if we can come up with a way to figure out what is going on.

Thanks for replying.

1. I'm using XP built in client, I don't what they are using on their side
2. The vpn connection works when I'm at home on the same laptop using the same shortcut that I am unable to connect to when at work. BOth work and and home connect to the internet via a wireless access point using a 192.168.x.x addr.
3. I was implying that at work their wireless AP not their firewall (don't know if AP has routing) may be preventing data from reaching my ip.

Was this resolved? I'm able to connect via dial-up but not from office T1. Same error.

Yes, this issue has been resolved. It seemed to be a flakey wireless aceees point that needs to be reset more often then I'd like but at least it always fixes my connection issue. FYI it is a Microsoft Access Point.
