Error 680

When I have my power adapter plugged in to my Dell Insipiron I8100 laptop I can not dial up to my ISP. When the lap top runs just off the battery it can dial up and surf the net. I have updated the Bios flash and video card. The operating system is Windows Xp home edition. I have also checked the power adapter and it is ok. Error 680 shows up saying it could not find dial tone when I plug in my power adapter. Turned off dial tone in device manager and it stil did not work. Thank you for your help concerning this issue.

This sounds like the power supply is causing some interference on your telephone line. This may be caused by the external supply or could be an internal problem on the motherboard.
Could you try another external supply?
