it is something about the "remote computer not responding"
actually i've tried everything that i could do but seems nothing could ge rid of this error.... and I cant connect to the IE(i'm using DSL).

i've tried checking for the NIC card, then my connectoid, also i've tried creating a new one but still the same error....

any solutions for this one...?
any comments will be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance..........

Error 678 is a major league pain! If your on dsl and connect using PPPoE, chances are you have a bad Password/username. If it's not that it can be 1 of about 100 things. Error 678 is Windows way of saying "I can't get a connection and I don't know why." Here are a few of the things that can cause this error, and possible solutions:
1. Intermittant sync (low upstream signal power and/or bitrate)
a. Plug the phone cord from the modem straight into the wall jack
b. Use a different phone cord and make it as short as possible
2. You've got a smart modem and xp dialer trying to connect at the same time.
a. Open IE and type in 192.168.1.1 if it opens up a page with your modem make name and some type of connection summary or overview, you have a smart modem. If this is the case, you need to set the modem to bridge mode or delete the xp dialer. If you've got a Westell modem, you can get all sorts of information about this at the Westell site.
3. Your mac address isn't matching what your carrier is showing. This will happen if you had another modem or computer on this line.
a. Turn off your computer, turn off the modem, unplug the modem from the phone jack, and leave it like this for about 1/2 hour. Plug the modem back into the phone jack, turn the modem back on, wait until the dsl or ready light goes solid and power up your pc. This will get your carrier to recognize your current mac address and renew your ip address.
Also check to make sure your getting a valid ip address (ipconfig in command window)
Good luck!

99% of the time bad username or password, sometime people change there Email username or password not knowing that it is also there DSL logon. This is more of a problem when the DSL modem is a modem router so the username and password needs change in the modem.
