error 630 or error 628 win not recognizing modem

I receive both of these errors intemittently(sp). Error 630 is not communicting with modem, it suggest to turn off or restart my modem and offers the advice to make sure the modem is plugged in...Error 628 suggest that there is no dial tone, check connection and or no comm with modem.<br>

Using a 56k USR internal pci modem, I've deleted from device manager, reinstalled, checked bios, and resintalled software. modemdiag.exe cannot read comm port. any suggestions.

disable com1 or com2 in bios.<br>

alot of times your modem may not be resetting after a dialing attempt. if you were to put your modem connect speed up higher than it would talk to your computer at a faster rate and that may help. you may also want to find a newer driver for your modem or try reinstalling the com ports.
