We are trying to run period end in AR and receive this error (Error 47 in program ARWPAA at line 8202). The 'Substring reference out of string' error sounds like there is non-existent data somewhere it is trying to reference. Any ideas on what that might be or how I can determine where the data is missing? Thanks in advance.

Make sure there are no cash receipts in progress.
Rebuild the keys for AR1
Rebuild the sort files.

You might need to re-init the cash receipts files and then rebuild the sorts.

Also if your maintenance is up to date then you can research this on the Sage web page in their knowledge base.

Thanks for the response. I should have mentioned what I have already done, which includes:
Checked all transaction entries, all files are empty (so, there are no cash receipts in progress).
Reinitialized the AR9 & ARA files & rebuilt the keys & sorts for all of AR.
Also, I did search the knowledgebase on the Sage website, but didn't find anything particularly useful.

In that case you should contact your reseller to have them contact Sage Tech support and find out exactly what is happening at line 8202.

Okay...was hoping there was a way to determine what information it was trying to reference without contacting tech support.

I know a lot about MAS but sometimes I have to call tech support to find out what is happening at certain lines.

try this: - first, back up.
1. Open Library Master / Repair / Data File Display and Maintenance.
2. Click 'OK' through the warning message.
3. Enter AR4xxx in the File Name field (xxx=company code) and press 'Enter'
4. Click on the "Key Scan" button
5. The first record in this file will be blank or all periods. Select this record.
6. Click on the "Delete" button. and answer Yes to "Delete the current record?".
7. Exit Data File Display and Maintenance.
8. Rebuild Application Sort Files for Accounts Receivable
9. Run the A/R Period End Processing again.
