I have inherited a database which compacts everytime it loads. The database is on the network. However lately users are getting the above error message first thing in the morning, then the problem just goes away. I have checked and there are no users in it, there is no LDB file. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Here is a quote from Google Groups, which may indicate where the problem is occuring.

[tt]My name is Kerri Lipe. Thank you for using the Microsoft Access Newsgroups.

When you compact a database, a new, temporary database is created. These
databases should be deleted after the compacting has completed. If they
still remain in the directory, you might want to check to make sure you
have the correct permissions that allow that file to get deleted. In the
instances that you see a file not being created, either one of two things
is occurring, either it is getting created/deleted in the Temp directory or
the compact is so quick that you do not see it.

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
reply to this posting.

Regards, Kerri Lipe

Why compacting on loading rather than on unloading? Might eliminate the problem and will probably load faster too!
