Error 25580

When running SQL we sometimes get the error 25580 (system error occurred in the network function) and then error -349 (database not selected yet). Then we have to choose the database again. We are running HPUX 11.11 and Informix - SQL 7.31.FC1 on a 64-bit machine. This seems to happen more frequently during heavy use. Does anyone have any idea why this happens and what can be done to prevent it?

What is probably happening is that you are losing connectivity during heavy traffic. The next time this happens, use the ping command to check connectivity. If you get a failed ping, follow up with the traceroute command to find out exactly what's happening to the packets you send. This should help you locate what the problem is, whether it is the packets are being misrouted, or a network is dropping them, or most likely indicating that a gateway is down. Dodge20
