Error 21776 [SQL-DMO] try to change user properties on restored db

I have brought s standby database on-line and noticed that a couple of users do not exist on the restored server.

I created the user with the defaul database of master. Then removed the orpans. When I try to change the users default database using enterprise manager, I get the following error

"Error 21776 [SQL-DMO] The name 'fred' was not in found in the user collections. If name is a qualified name, use [] to separate various parts of the name"

When I cancel the action and go back in I find the change has taken place.

sp_change_users_login 'update_one', 'user_name', 'user_name'
