I keep getting this error when trying to log in to a SQL 7 db from a client application written in VB6.

The text reads:

Login failed for user 'rmuser'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I have the account setup in SQL security and I have the account listed in the database and I'm using named pipes on a common domain. I'm running out of options. The network is a mix of Novell and NT. Please help
Hi,

I don't know how much SS you know, so here a brief security overview. There are 3 type of security - standard, trusted and mixed.

Standard: You set up a SS user and password. The user must supply these when they are connecting to SS

Trusted: When you set up a user in SS, you specify a user from the NT domain. The user is youirdomain/yourntlogin. These users only need to login correctly to NT to get into SS, they are trusted.

Mixed: A mix of both above.

It seems to me that you have set a user up in SS as standard, but on your ODBC connection you have left the TRUSTED tick box ticked. This means that the app will connect using NT login and therefore fail.

If you are still having trouble let me know.
