Dear all:
I found an error code 1603 which stop removing the SQL Reporting from my server 2k, Please help. In fact, I got the problem which prompt me to input the domain password during reporting after installing the e-certificate on my server. The only way, I can try is to re-install the SQL reporting again. But now both remove and installation can't be achieved, Please advise.

George

You got this error while trying to *remove* Reporting Services? And did you install this e-certificate before or after this point?

What exactly is an e-certificate? Are you talking about Certificate Services in general or something more specific?

Dear Catadmin:
The error was found while removing the SQL Reporting from its original disc. The SQL reporting was installed before applying the e-certificate for the Win 2k server. In fact, the purpose of using the e-certificate on server is to secure the web site with SSL 128 bit. I have read some materials about error code 1603 under the webpages but found nothing I can do, please advise. tkx

George,

I'm still not sure what you mean by "removing Reporting Services from its original disk". I'm assuming you mean you were either copying the files or trying to install them?

I read in HitchHiker's Guide to SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services that it is better to install SSL certificates before you install RS. I'm still not sure if your e certificate is an SSL certificate. Who is the vendor for your certificate software? Have you asked them about the error code?

Having never done the SSL installation, I would recommend checking out the aforementioned book as it does have details, starting on page 68, on installing SSL certificates *after* RS is installed without having to uninstall RS and re-install RS.

Barring that, have you gone to MS's website yet to see if you can track down a KB article with that error message in it?

For Info. Hopefully this will help you.

I encountered an error today when installing the Reporting Services Designer components into Visual Studio.NET 2003 on a Windows XP workstation. If you search on this error there are a couple of long winded articles that describe fixes and workarounds as the error can have multiple causes.

There is a simple scenario that isn't covered in most of these kb's.

If you are installing the components onto a machine that does not have IIS installed then you will receive this error as the install routine looks for a user called 'ASPNET'. If this user does not exist then the installation fails with error 1603.

To resolve the issue simply create a local windows user called 'ASPNET' - this user does not need to have any group memberships or special password they simply need to exist.

Dear TheBlondOne:
Tkx for your information and I try it. In fact, I have installed the e-certificate for the machine after setup the SQL Reporting Services, thus I check it out as well. Since reporting was not including SSL under my scenario, and it found SSL while removing. So I guess the error 1603 may be the way!

Tkx again,

George
