Error #160002 Message: Cannot connect to SMTP host

I am receiving a "Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions:
Error #160002 Message: Cannot connect to SMTP host" in the Event Log when trying to e-mail results from a Frontpage form on my website. I have not had this problem until recently. I have made no changes to my server except for the required updates from Microsoft. My software is as follows:
MS Server 2000, IIS 5.0, Simple SMTP service inlcuded with Server 2000 and Frontpage 2002 for web publishing.

Steps taken:
Reinstalling Frontpage Server Extensions 2002
Reinstalling SMTP service
Restarting IIS
Changing SMTP hosts

This error has frustrated me to no end. Please someone help.

make sure your virus software isn't blocking smtp Port 25. the newer versions are blocking it by default.
