Hi,

I really some help with this one. I have 2 computers connected together via crossover cable to share the internet connection. It's been working fine for months now, then yesterday, the secondart computer doesn't have internet access anymore. The main does have internet access and when I try to go to ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to share the acces. It tells me "Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.".
I checked that the service (Windows Firewall - Internet connection share) is started but when I try to retstart/start it gives me the same error. I don't understand how "just like that it stopped working". i can say though that it was working fine until I ran Adaware or Spybot (i'm not too sure which one might/could/possibly caused the problem).
I really need to have the secondard computer back online.

Please help.

Thank you,

JJ

Ok try turning internet connection off, releasing your ip. Then renew your ip, restart the ics and restart the computer. Give that a try.

Hi,

Nope that didn't work... I still get the "Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.".

Please help.

thanks,
JJ

Sounds like there is some path address corruption in your Registry.

Adaware and Spybot both have a Restore function if you have removed something in error. System Restore may also be an option, as is trying the Winsock fix built in to Windows?

Hi,

I've tried those 3 links:

XADM: Error Message: Error 123: The Filename, Directory Name, or Volume Label Syntax Is Incorrect

and they didn't work unfortunately. I'll give the:

a try. If that doesn't work, do you have any other suggestions please.

Please help,
JJ

Did you try System Restore?

Hi,

System restore wasn't enabled and none of those links worked. I did however figure it out. It was a regisrty entry to wasn't pointing to the right place.. Argghhh... darn Adaware screwed it up. I fixed the registry entry, started the service and "repaired" the connection. Eureka! It's all good.

Thanks anyway for all of your help though guys
