Error: 1045 (28000) help needed

I have just installed mysql 4.1.14 on windows xp professional

I am trying to test it by using the mysql test command from with the command prompt.

However I get the following message:

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

can anyone please help me?

As far as I remember, a new MySQL installation has 4 user accounts, with no passwords. The accounts are:
- root@localhost
- root@%
- ''@localhost
- ''@%

So, your first login should use one of these accounts, most likely root@localhost, as you will no doubt want to set up your own user accounts and passwords.
