I am getting a few users who dial in via VPN getting an error message:
Checking network protocols.....
TCP/IP CP reported error code 736
The remote computer terminated the control protocol.

and the PC cannot connect. I thought this was an issue with reaching the maximum number of PC's that could connect via VPN as if one PC that could connect was disconnected the other PC with the error message could connect and the one that could connect, couldn't.
I increased the number of VPN's on server. and rebooted server.
However, I increased by 30 and some people are still getting error messages. There has not been an increase in the number of users and the number of connections I have made is more than the users we have who dial in. Does anyone know if this could be another issue?

any advice greatly appreciated

Hi prha,

By no means am I an authority on how to fix these sort of problems but I have been having them myself lately. It seems that when I change a setting on a the RRAS setup or the properties of the connection that this happens. I then have to double check all the settings on both sides of the connection to ensure they are compatible. It all seems to work after that.

Not much of an answer but it might give you a place to start.

I have the error message by using a wrong ip by connecting at the vpn server. The vpn server have a ip area for vpn clients. so you have to take a ip of this area in the configuration of the vpn client.

I have checked all the settings on the PC's at the remote sites and everything is OK.
The PC's that have trouble logging on are different on a daily basis. Sometimes they can connect then a few hours later they cannot. It does appear to be the number of PC's connected that make the difference but I have 50 available VPN connections on my server and only 40 remote users in total.

Any other advice?
