Erratic mouse movement in Win ME

I have a computer running Windows ME with an Athlon 900, ABIT KT7, 640MB RAM and Creative GeForce 2 GTS. I have owned a Microsoft Intellimouse with a ball and one with a laser and with both mice i find the same problem in Windows Millenium.

When i move my mouse in one direction too quickly Windows reverses the direction and i find my cursor moving from left to right very quickly. This is quite an annoying problem especially for someone who plays 1st person games which rely on fast mouse movement.

Ever since we have had Windows ME installed it has been doing it. I have the latest mouse drivers and the mouse acceleration doesn't seem to have much of an effect on the problem. What can i do?

I have the same problem with mine, except it didnt always do it. Not until i replaced the compaq board witha soyo k7-vtapro and the cpu to a 1200mhz amd athlon. The mouse is the same compaq with a wheel. The only thing that i have found that helps at all is to turn down the mouse speed in the control panel an set the mouse accel to medium, the 5th notch from the left seems to be the best one. Try that, you may have to ge used to the new settings in windows, but I did not feel a big difference in quake III. Hope that helps. And yes its very annoying when people think you are making excuses when you suck cause you cant flick your mouse.
