Eraser tool not working correctly

I have a 16 bit colour image and have created a new Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer, I've set the saturation slider to -100 to create a black & white image, when I use the eraser tool on the new layer to erase the black & white image and to reveal the colour image nothing happens the image just stays black & white. Any help would be gratefull.

That's because there are no pixels to delete on the saturation layer.

You will have to mask off the area to be unnaffected - paint with black on the white box (layer mask thumbnail) to mask off the areas you want unaffected.

Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.
