Erase a tape, while job is in progress

I use arcserve 2000 for backup. my friday backup uses 2 tapes. My problem is, if i don't erase both tapes before, it won't accept the 2nd tape when propted.
Does anyone have a solution to this? other than erasing the tapes before begining the backup.

HI,
This cannot be done as the Tapeng.exe is being locked by the backup process...
Thus you would not be able to format\erase a media when a backup is going
